The Project

Description

The STEMcooking project , an acronym for the project title in English Discovering Science and Maths through Cooking, is a European project (Strategic Partnership for Innovation and Exchange of good practices, Action Key 2 (KA2) of the Erasmus + programme 2017-1-ES01-KA219- 037985 ) in which 4 European schools participate:

IES Gabriel y Galán. Plasencia, Cáceres, Spain (coordinating centre)

II.gimnazija, Zagreb, Croatia

Lycée Chrestien de Troyes. Troyes, France

Killorglin Community College, Killorglin, Ireland

The project arises after an analysis of needs in the teaching-learning processes, in the teaching of STEM subjects, in the participating schools and in the decrease of students interested in pursuing higher education in these disciplines.

The main purpose of this project is the improvement of competences for the learning of STEM disciplines ( Science , Technology , Engineering & Mathematics ) through the Project-Based Learning methodology, integrating real-world cooking situations in a way that students learn to think scientifically about their environment.

The project has been carried out during the academic years 2017/2018 and 2018/2019.

The project is aimed at students aged 15 to 17. Participants in the project are STEM teachers and language teachers.

Objectives

The main objective of this project is to improve the knowledge and skills of students in STEM subjects, proposing activities and practical investigations through project-based learning (PBL), favouring the development of critical and creative thinking and the capacities to become active agents in construction of their learnings. Each STEM project will be focused on one of the five thematic axes in which we have divided the project.

Objetive 1

To reinforce the professional profile of teachers, improve the processes through which students acquire STEM competencies with effective methodologies based on multidisciplinary and innovative approaches, such as project-based learning

Objetive 2

To optimise the knowledge and skills of teachers in the teaching of STEM disciplines through project- based learning strategies, case study, team learning, ...

Objetive 3

To improve the ICT skills of students and teachers, and make them part of normal life in the classroom.

Objetive 4

To promote among students and teachers the knowledge and understanding of the diversity of European cultures and languages and the value of that diversity.

Objetive 5

To improve the linguistic communication skills of both the students and the teachers involved. Using English, Spanish and French as the working languages both for the development of the activities and the resulting products of the project.

Objetive 6

To increase the quality and the European dimension in the training of the participating teachers. To include the European dimension in the school life, to internationalize it and enrich our sense of community through the knowledge of new realities and cultures.

Objetive 7

To encourage cooperation between the four schools by creating a network with the same objectives to work at a transnational level, to promote innovation, to participate in joint educational activities and exchange good practices.

Objetive 8
